Spring Cleaning

Posted on March 15th, 2018 by upperroomhome.

Spring is here! Nature is taking full effect and color is bursting into our yards. The home exteriors are changing, but what about the inside? Too often, cleaning up around the house can be hard and a chore that gets brushed under the rug (quite literally, at times). Life gets in the way and spring cleaning gets pushed down the list.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be that hard. It can be fairly easy if you put the right plan in place. What was once dreaded can now be a therapeutic project that brings the entire family together. There is work to do! We are going to break down a few ways you can realistically tackle your spring cleaning project. No matter how large or small your home is.

Write Out a Plan

Just like with anything, if you don’t write it down where you can physically see it, you might never get it done. To give yourself the best chance of completing your adventure, get an old-fashioned pen and paper out. Start by walking around your home through every room and hall. Write down everything that needs to be cleaned or thrown out.

It is important to not forget the little things like wiping down the baseboards, cleaning the windows, or tidying up the closets. It’s all about breaking a large task down into smaller, more manageable one. Once you have a complete list it’s time to get to work! For many people, crossing off a physical list gives a great sense of accomplishment.

Get Multiple People involved

Cleaning up your home for spring doesn’t have to be a depressing chore you do alone. With this project, the more the merrier! Ask a group of friends to come over and help out, but make it worth their while. Offer to take them out to lunch or for a drink at their favorite watering hole. Without motivation, they are not likely to be thrilled with you and your chores.

Make use of the whole family. With little children, making it into a game is one of the easiest ways to get them to want to participate. Incentives are also key. Your family is a group of people that are stuck with you. Why not take advantage of the relationship! If you get the whole family involved, the once large looking project will shrink down to a palatable size.

Start With The Small Things

The last thing you want to do is get discouraged before you even start. Start with small things that you can easily get done in a short amount of time. An example of this would be cleaning the windows. It is not going to take too long to do this task and it will instill confidence diving into the much larger projects.

The same goes for friends or family that you get to help out. Try not to start them out by reorganizing your entire garage. This will likely scare them away and defeat the purpose of having them over. Cleaning all the mirrored surfaces in your home is also a great way to start the process and gain some steam.

Put On Some Music

It seems silly, but putting on music can soothe your mind and make the cleaning process go much faster. Since everyone has their own favorite genre, we can’t make a specific music suggestion. It all depends on your mood. If you need to get amped up to clean, throw a little rock or rap on. If it’s a sunny Saturday morning and the birds are chirping out your window, put on something a little more soothing.

At the end of the day, a clean and organized home will be well worth the effort. If you’re like many people, they don’t keep up with their chores and watch their home slowly pile up with things to do. One way to ensure that your spring cleaning task isn’t close to as large next year is to keep up with the little things. We promise that you will be much happier when next spring rolls around knowing that you can relax. At Good’s Furniture, we care about our customers and are always here to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to call, email, or come into our showroom. We hope to see you soon!
