Keep These Home Office Design Tips in Mind

Posted on August 9th, 2018 by upperroomhome.

You want your home office to provide you comfort and style that represents your personality. The ideal home office design will help you stay productive, while making it a place you want to be. You can also use it as your private study or place to retreat when you need some alone time to create or recuperate.

Brand Your Home Office

If you intend to let customers into your home office, you will want to add furniture and accessories consistent with your brand. It will help you portray yourself as the professional they can count on to provide them the products or services they need. For instance, a lawyer or counselor who has a home office might commit to a traditional or contemporary decoration theme using a combination of neutral colors.

For a bolder neutral look, use black rather than beige, brown, white or other solid shades. For instance, the #6001 black office desk and matching side cabinet and ergonomic chair against a white wall gives you just the contrast you need. Consider adding your professional license in a frame or some favorite historical black and white photos to the wall.

An architect, artist or a writer, on the other hand, might have a little more leeway with casual decorating than would people of another profession. For instance, you might install the #6021 drawing board or add a slim, sleek or wall-mounted desk with sculpted chair. Your home office design will depend on the amount of space you have for your creative projects.

Maximize the Space You Have

Take advantage of The Upper Room’s Room Planner software to help you maximize your home office space. You can plan your display according to room size and furniture dimensions. This software works on both mobile and desktop devices, and it includes a drag-and-drop arrangement feature. You can even add wall hangings and décor to see how your furniture will look on it.

Using the Room Planner will, for instance, help you decide what size of L-shaped desk you can add to your room. It will also show you what tables, shelves or other objects you can display that will provide room for you, your co-workers or your clients.

Include Just a Touch of Art

Depending on your purpose for having a home office space, you could add just a touch of art to the room. For instance, you might decide on the Golden Leaves Shadow Box Set of 6 or the Maxton Multi-Faceted panels for adding just a bit of a precious metal appearance. A set of Melani Decorative Panels, Raimondo Wall Plaque or Fidelia Architectural Panel could also add some life to your bare walls.

You also could choose a bookcase with intricate carvings or designs such as the #13612 3 Drawer 2 Door Bookcase or the #14047 1 Drawer bookcase. Both of these pieces allow for placement of décor, lamps or work materials on top of them.
